IPL 2026: SRH Faces Major Setback with Key Players Injured
IPL 2026 Kicks Off Amid Injury Concerns
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is scheduled to commence on March 28 (Saturday), featuring a match between the reigning champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. However, SRH has encountered significant challenges ahead of the season. Their captain, Pat Cummins, will miss part of the tournament as he continues to recover from an injury. To make matters worse, another key player has been ruled out entirely.
As reported by ESPN Cricinfo, Australian all-rounder Jack Edwards has been sidelined for the entire IPL 2026 due to a foot injury. SRH acquired him for Rs 3 crore during the IPL 2026 auction, making him the only uncapped overseas player to be signed. Edwards had an impressive run in the Big Bash League 2025/26 with the Sydney Sixers, where he claimed 19 wickets across 13 matches and contributed 133 runs. He played a crucial role in the Sixers' journey to the finals, where they ultimately fell to the Perth Scorchers. Just four days after the final, Edwards made his international debut for Australia in a T20I against Pakistan, but it was a disappointing outing as he conceded 25 runs in two overs without taking a wicket and scored only 5 runs off 6 balls.
Injury Woes Continue for Australian Players
Jack Edwards is the latest addition to a growing list of Australian players missing out on IPL 2026 due to injuries. Veteran fast bowlers Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc will also be absent from their respective teams. Additionally, Nathan Ellis has been ruled out, leaving CSK in a difficult position.
