IPL 2026: Aakash Chopra Names Nitish Reddy as Top All-Rounder
IPL 2026 Playoff Race Heats Up
The IPL 2026 season is in full swing, with teams vying for the coveted playoff spots. Hardik Pandya, captain of the Mumbai Indians, is often hailed as one of India's premier all-rounders. However, his performance this season has not met expectations, as he has managed only 146 runs and taken 4 wickets across 8 matches. Consequently, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has not included him in his list of the tournament's top all-rounders, instead highlighting Sunrisers Hyderabad's Nitish Reddy as the standout player in this role.
On his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra emphasized that no other all-rounder has achieved the feat of scoring 200 runs and taking more than five wickets, apart from Reddy. He noted that the Sunrisers appeared weaker in matches when Reddy was absent, and his return significantly boosted the team's performance. 'He is currently the best all-rounder in this tournament. The team looked vulnerable without him, but once he returned, they were exceptional,' Chopra remarked.
Chopra further elaborated on Reddy's bowling, stating that he has been effective in various phases of the game. 'His pace has noticeably increased, which indicates his determination to improve. He recognized the need to elevate his game and has worked hard to achieve that,' he added.
Call for Inclusion in Indian White-Ball Team
'Play Him In Indian White-Ball Team'
Chopra praised Reddy's ability to take key wickets and deliver impactful spells during crucial moments. He highlighted the all-rounder's growth in maturity and consistency this season, advocating for his selection in the Indian white-ball team. 'He effectively bowls seam-up deliveries during the Powerplay and consistently takes important wickets. His contributions have been vital,' Chopra stated.
Reflecting on Reddy's batting skills, Chopra recalled his potential, noting that it took time for him to reach his current level. 'We witnessed his batting prowess during the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. He is undoubtedly a talented player, but this season, his maturity and consistent performances have come to the forefront, making a strong case for his inclusion in white-ball cricket,' he concluded.
