Introducing the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy: A New Era in India-England Test Cricket

A Historic Addition to the India-England Test Rivalry

New Delhi [India] - Cricketing icons Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson are set to be honored in a unique way as the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) have announced the establishment of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. This new accolade will be awarded during the Test series between India and England, as reported by a leading sports news outlet.

The trophy will be officially presented by Tendulkar and Anderson at Lord's during the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final, commencing on June 11. This announcement comes just in time for the new WTC cycle, with a five-match Test series scheduled to begin on June 20 at Headingley in Leeds.

Anderson, who recently concluded his illustrious career with 188 Test matches, is celebrated as England's finest fast bowler. Tendulkar, revered as one of the greatest batsmen in cricket history, played 200 Tests before his retirement in 2013.

Previously, the Test series in England was recognized as the Pataudi Trophy, named after the legendary Indian captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi. Conversely, when the series took place in India, it was referred to as the Anthony de Mello Trophy, honoring one of the founding members of the BCCI and its first secretary and president.

This initiative aligns with a growing trend in international cricket, as seen last year when England and New Zealand introduced the Crowe-Thorpe Trophy, named after Martin Crowe and Graham Thorpe. Additionally, India and Australia compete for the renowned Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Test cricket.

England's squad for the first Test includes: Ben Stokes (C), Shoaib Bashir, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Sam Cook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Josh Tongue, and Chris Woakes.

India's Test squad for the series against England features: Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, and Kuldeep Yadav.
