Inter Miami CF to Honor Lionel Messi with Dedicated Stand at Nu Stadium
Inter Miami CF's Tribute to Messi
Florida [US], March 27: Inter Miami CF is set to pay tribute to Lionel Messi, the legendary Argentine footballer and FIFA World Cup champion, by naming a section of their new Nu Stadium after him, officially called the "Leo Messi Stand." This unique honor is particularly notable as it breaks from the norm of reserving such tributes for retired players.
The announcement from Inter Miami CF expressed excitement about this initiative, highlighting that Messi, their 38-year-old captain, will have a stand named in his honor while still actively playing. The club emphasized that this recognition is not merely a nostalgic tribute but a celebration of Messi's current contributions and the extraordinary moments he brings to the pitch.
Since Messi's arrival at the club in the summer of 2023, he has played a pivotal role in leading Inter Miami to their first four trophies, including the 2023 Leagues Cup, the 2024 MLS Supporters' Shield, the 2025 Eastern Conference title, and the 2025 MLS Cup.
On an individual level, Messi has continued to excel in the MLS, winning the 2025 MLS Golden Boot with 29 goals and contributing a total of 48 goals (29 goals and 19 assists). He has also been recognized as the Landon Donovan MLS Most Valuable Player for two consecutive seasons, making history as the first player to achieve this feat.
Messi has become Inter Miami's all-time leading scorer and assist provider, amassing 82 goals and 53 assists in 94 matches across all competitions. Earlier this month, he made headlines by becoming only the second male footballer to score 900 official goals, achieving this milestone during a 1-1 draw against Nashville SC in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
With this honor, Messi joins Cristiano Ronaldo as one of the only male players to reach the remarkable 900-goal mark.
