Indonesia Secures Victory Against India
New Delhi [India], April 9: In a challenging encounter at the DLTA Complex, India faced defeat against Indonesia during their third tie in the Billie Jean King Cup Group I – Asia/Oceania. The Indonesian team secured both singles matches, establishing an unassailable lead.
As per the latest updates, Indonesia's victory keeps them in contention for the top position, while the Korea Republic maintained their unbeaten streak with a win over New Zealand. Thailand also made a strong comeback, achieving a clean sweep against Mongolia.
In the first singles match, Vaishnavi Adkar fought hard but ultimately lost to Priska Madelyn Nugroho in a gripping three-set match, with scores of 7-6(3), 6-7(3), 6-3. Adkar displayed remarkable determination to push the match to a deciding set after losing the first in a tiebreak, but Nugroho held her composure to clinch the win.
Sahaja Yamalapalli struggled in her singles match against Janice Tjen, who delivered a dominant performance, winning 6-2, 6-1, thereby securing the tie for Indonesia. At the time of reporting, Rutuja Bhosale and Ankita Raina were competing in the doubles against Aldila Sutjiadi and Janice Tjen from Indonesia.
Meanwhile, the Republic of Korea continued their impressive form with a convincing victory over New Zealand. Dayeon Back defeated Valentina Ivanov 7-5, 6-3, while Sohyun Park showcased her skills with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Monique Barry, sealing the tie for Korea. Both Korea and Indonesia remain undefeated in the tournament.
Thailand also returned to winning form, sweeping Mongolia 3-0 without losing a single set. Thasaporn Naklo started the tie with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 victory over Anu-Vjin Gantor, followed by Patcharin Cheapchandej, who mirrored that score against Khongorzul Aldarkhishig. The doubles team of Peangtarn Plipuech and Kamonwan Yodpetch completed the rout with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 win.
All six teams are competing in a round-robin format until Saturday, with the top two teams advancing to the next stage.
