India's Young Boxers Shine at Asian U17 Championships
Outstanding Performances by Indian Boxers
Tashkent [Uzbekistan], May 9: The young boxing team from India showcased remarkable talent at the Asian U17 Boxing Championships, with five athletes securing spots in the semifinals, ensuring at least five medals for the nation.
During the quarterfinals, Yash Yadav (50kg) achieved a hard-fought 4:1 victory against Kubanychbek Bolushov from Kyrgyzstan (KGZ). Nivesh Pal (54kg) continued the trend of success, winning decisively with a unanimous 5:0 against Shingen Kanai from Japan (JPN), thus advancing to the semifinals.
In the 70kg division, Naman Kumar delivered an impressive performance, defeating Ruzibek Miravotov of Tajikistan (TJK) with a 5:0 score. Lakshay Phogat (75kg) also shone brightly, clinching a solid 5:0 victory over Cheng-En Li from Chinese Taipei (TPE) to reach the semifinals.
However, not all results were favorable; Karung Albertson (60kg) faced a 0:5 defeat against Emir Mukhit of Kazakhstan (KAZ). Similarly, Ranveer (66kg) lost 0:5 to Islam Suleimanogly from Kazakhstan (KAZ), and Siddhant (+80kg) was defeated 0:5 by Sabyrzhan Sagym of Kazakhstan (KAZ), concluding their journeys in the tournament.
With four additional medals secured today, India's total in the U-17 boys category has reached five. The Indian team aims to maintain this momentum and strive for top finishes in the upcoming semifinal rounds.
