Indian Boxing Team Prepares for Asian U15 & U17 Championships

The Indian boxing team, comprising 56 members, is ready to kick off its journey at the Asian Boxing U15 & U17 Championships 2026, which will take place starting May 1 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This event will showcase some of the most promising young talents from across Asia in various weight categories, as announced by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI).


India enters this prestigious tournament with a robust and diverse squad for both boys and girls, highlighting the nation’s commitment to grassroots development and the cultivation of future champions.


In the U-17 category, there are 13 boxers each for boys and girls, competing in weight classes from 44-46kg to over 80kg, supported by four coaches and a physiotherapist for each team. The U-15 teams consist of 15 boxers in both divisions, competing in weight categories from 30-33kg to over 70kg, with five coaches and a physiotherapist accompanying them.


Ajay Singh, President of the Boxing Federation of India, emphasized that these championships provide young Indian boxers with essential international exposure and the opportunity to face off against Asia's elite.


“These championships are a vital opportunity for our young athletes to gain international experience and challenge themselves against the best in Asia. In recent years, boxing has emerged as India’s leading sport, consistently achieving the highest medal counts at major international events, including multi-sport competitions like the Youth Asian Games and various World and Continental Championships. This ongoing success showcases the strength of our grassroots initiatives. We have a talented group of athletes across different age categories, and we believe this team represents the next generation of champions for Indian boxing,” he stated.


The championships are crucial for spotting and nurturing the next wave of elite boxers, with many of these young talents likely to advance through the national ranks and represent India in significant international competitions in the future.


With a solid pipeline of emerging talent and a well-structured support system, the Indian team aims to leave a lasting impression and continue the country’s upward trend in international boxing.
