India's Young Boxers Gear Up for Asian Championships in Uzbekistan

Indian Boxing Team Prepares for Asian Championships

New Delhi [India], April 30: A robust contingent of 56 young Indian boxers is ready to kick off their journey at the Asian Boxing U15 and U17 Championships 2026, set to commence tomorrow in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This event will showcase some of the brightest young talents from across Asia, competing in various weight classes.


India enters this prestigious tournament with a well-prepared squad, featuring both boys and girls, which underscores the nation’s commitment to developing grassroots talent and fostering future champions.


The U-17 teams consist of 13 boxers each for boys and girls, competing in weight categories from 44-46kg to over 80kg, with four coaches and a physiotherapist supporting each team. In the U-15 category, there are 15 boxers in both divisions, competing in weight classes ranging from 30-33kg to over 70kg, accompanied by five coaches and a physiotherapist for each group.


Ajay Singh, President of the Boxing Federation of India, emphasized the significance of these championships, stating, “These events provide a vital opportunity for our young athletes to gain international experience and challenge themselves against Asia's best. In recent years, boxing has emerged as India’s leading sport, consistently achieving the highest medal counts in major international competitions, including the Youth Asian Games and World Championships. This ongoing success highlights the strength of our grassroots initiatives. We have a talented pool of athletes across various age groups, and we believe this team represents the future of Indian boxing.”


The championships are pivotal for spotting and nurturing the next generation of elite boxers, with many participants expected to advance through the national ranks and represent India on the global stage in the future.
