India's Hockey Triumph at Asian Games

In a stunning display of skill, India's women's hockey team continued their impressive performance at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026, overwhelming Thailand with a score of 20-1 during their Pool B encounter at Kawasaki Juko Stadium on Wednesday.


Leading the charge was Deepika, who netted an astonishing nine goals. Navneet Kaur contributed four goals, while Rutuja Dadaso Pisal added three to the tally. Other players, including Lalremsiami, Neha, Sakshi, and Salima Tete, also scored, marking India's third consecutive victory in the tournament, as reported by ESPN.


India showcased their dominance by controlling 61% of the match's possession and scoring in every quarter. They achieved six goals in the first quarter, followed by five in the second, another five in the third, and four in the final quarter.


Thailand's lone goal was scored by Samanso Supansa in the 57th minute.


Previously, India kicked off their campaign with a resounding 19-0 win against Uzbekistan, where Deepika scored eight goals and Ishika added a hat-trick. They followed this with a remarkable 17-goal performance against Indonesia before their latest triumph over Thailand.


Looking ahead, the Indian team is set to face the host nation, Japan, on Friday, followed by a match against Singapore on Sunday in their remaining Pool B fixtures.


In other competitions on Wednesday, India's men's kabaddi team secured a 48-25 victory over Bangladesh, marking their third consecutive win in the group stage, while the women's team triumphed over Iran with a score of 37-23, achieving their second straight win.


India also had a successful day in individual events, with Olympic medalist Mirabai Chanu winning silver in the women's 49kg weightlifting category with a total lift of 198kg. Additionally, Jay Meena made history by winning the country's first-ever Asian Games medal in soft tennis, claiming bronze in the men's singles.


In skeet shooting, both the men's and women's teams secured bronze medals. The women's team, consisting of Raiza Dhillon, Parinaaz Dhaliwal, and Maheshwari Chauhan, finished third with 331 points, while the men's team, featuring Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Mairaj Ahmed Khan, and Bhavtegh Singh Gill, clinched bronze after a shoot-off victory against Kazakhstan.


In squash, Abhay Singh advanced to the Round of 16 in the men's singles with a decisive win of 11-1, 11-0, 11-2 over Thailand's Arkaradet Arkarahirunya. Tanvi Khanna also moved forward in the women's singles after defeating Kim Dami.


India's rowers and canoe sprinters continued to excel, with numerous athletes and teams qualifying for finals and semi-finals.
