India's Women's Cricket Team Set to Clash with Sri Lanka in T20I Series Ahead of WPL
Exciting T20I Series on the Horizon
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], November 28: The Indian women's cricket team is preparing to take on Sri Lanka in an exhilarating five-match T20I series, which is set to commence on December 21 in Visakhapatnam, just ahead of the Women's Premier League (WPL) scheduled for January 2026.
This series will feature two matches in Visakhapatnam, followed by three encounters in Thiruvananthapuram, concluding on December 30. It signifies India's return to the field after their impressive victory at the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the schedule for the upcoming IDFC FIRST Bank Women’s T20I series, where India will host Sri Lanka for five matches next month. The initial games will take place in Visakhapatnam before the series shifts to Thiruvananthapuram for the remaining matches,” stated the BCCI.
These five T20Is will serve as crucial preparation for the T20 World Cup, which is set to take place in England starting June 12 next year.
The last encounter between these two teams was during the ODI World Cup opener on September 30, while their most recent T20I clash occurred at the T20 World Cup in October 2024.
India boasts a strong record against Sri Lanka, having secured 20 victories out of 26 matches. The last time Sri Lanka triumphed in India was in 2014, coincidentally also in Visakhapatnam, where the first two matches of the upcoming series will be held.
Following the WPL, India will embark on an all-format tour of Australia in February-March, which will include one Test, three One Day Internationals (ODIs), and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
The series will kick off with T20Is in Sydney, Canberra, and Adelaide, followed by ODIs in Brisbane and Hobart, and will conclude with a single Test match in Perth.
