India Clinches ODI Series Against Zimbabwe

Vadodara (Gujarat) [India], October 28: The Indian women's cricket team achieved a remarkable 3-0 series victory over Zimbabwe, concluding the ODI series with a decisive eight-wicket win in the final match held at the BCA Stadium on Wednesday.

Vaishnavi Sharma, a left-arm spinner, showcased her talent by taking five wickets, leading to Zimbabwe being bowled out for just 131 runs in 39.5 overs. Pratika Rawal and Shafali Verma then guided India to victory with their unbeaten half-centuries.

Having already secured the series, India capped off the ODI segment with another impressive performance, having previously swept the T20I series 3-0 as well.

After winning the toss, Zimbabwe chose to bat but faced difficulties in forming partnerships against India's disciplined bowling lineup.

Sayali Satghare initiated the breakthrough by dismissing Loryn Phiri in the second over, followed by Kranti Gaud who took out Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano for just four runs, putting the visitors in a precarious position early on.

Vaishnavi then struck again, removing Beloved Biza for a single run and breaking a 27-run partnership by stumping opener Modester Mupachikwa for 37 runs.

Zimbabwe's captain, Josephine Nkomo, tried to stabilize the innings, contributing to a 43-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Chiedza Dhururu, who managed 20 runs off 39 balls. However, Vaishnavi dismantled the middle order, completing her five-wicket haul as Zimbabwe was bowled out for 131.

Both Satghare and Gaud supported with two wickets each, complementing Vaishnavi's impactful performance.

India's batting began with a hiccup as Yastika Bhatia was dismissed by Nomvelo Sibanda on the very first ball, caught by Francisca Chipare.

Harleen Deol contributed 19 runs off 19 balls, including four boundaries, before being dismissed by Loryn Phiri, leaving India in need of a solid partnership to stabilize the chase.

Shafali Verma and Pratika Rawal then took charge, forming an unbroken 74-run partnership for the third wicket, comfortably guiding India past the target.

Rawal finished with 59 not out, while Shafali scored 51 not out, sealing the victory with a six and completing her half-century as India reached the target with eight wickets remaining.

This emphatic win marked India's clean sweep in the three-match ODI series, following their 3-0 success in the T20I series against Zimbabwe.
