National Sports Federation Conclave 2026: A Step Towards Sporting Excellence

New Delhi, May 7: The National Sports Federation Conclave 2026, attended by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, gathered representatives from 37 National Sports Federations (NSFs), including the Indian Olympic Association. The focus was on shaping India's sporting future and preparing for significant international competitions like the Commonwealth Games 2026, Asian Games 2026, and Summer Olympics 2028.


During his address, Minister Mandaviya emphasized that this conclave represents a unified effort towards India's readiness for forthcoming global sporting events.


He elaborated on the government's vision to elevate India as a prominent sporting nation through strategic planning, scientific training, enhanced infrastructure, and ongoing support for athletes gearing up for major competitions.


Mandaviya stressed the necessity of institutional reforms and effective governance, stating, "The future of sports in India hinges on improved collaboration among athletes, federations, and government bodies."


He advocated for athlete-centric governance within federations, calling for increased transparency, timely elections, accountability, and robust mechanisms to prioritize athlete welfare in India's sports framework.


The Minister reiterated the government's dedication to eliminating doping in Indian sports through education, awareness, and stringent legal actions. "Collective responsibility and decisive measures are essential to eradicate doping," he stated, urging federations, coaches, and support staff to foster a clean and transparent sports culture.


Mandaviya also highlighted the government's broader strategy to enhance the sports ecosystem through initiatives like Khelo India, the Fit India Movement, and the forthcoming Khelo Bharat Mission.


He pointed out the significance of scientific training, regular competitive exposure, private sector involvement, sports leagues, academies, and governance reforms to boost India's medal prospects at the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and LA Olympics 2028.


At the conclave, the Union Minister officially released the National Sports Governance Act 2025 Rules and Reform Guidelines Handbook.


Mandaviya emphasized the need for a robust sporting structure in India, advocating for greater accountability, transparent athlete selection processes, and sustained institutional support for federations.


He outlined the government's commitment to ensuring fair selection systems, increased competition exposure, enhanced international engagement for federations, and greater investment in athletes, coaches, and governance frameworks.


Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse underscored the importance of long-term planning, athlete support systems, and scientific training methodologies in creating a future-ready sports ecosystem.


She remarked, "India's journey towards the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and Olympics 2028 will be driven by performance, supported by science, and anchored in robust federations."


Secretary (Sports) Hari Ranjan Rao highlighted the significance of collective responsibility and long-term planning in realizing India's sporting goals.


"A nation that dreams big must prepare even bigger; today's discussions will shape India's sporting landscape for 2036," he stated.


He called for enhanced competition exposure, leagues, and modern training systems, urging coordinated teamwork among federations and stakeholders to achieve India's aspirations of becoming a global sporting powerhouse.


The conclave also included focused discussions on India's evolving sports roadmap, covering the Khelo India Mission Medal Strategy, promotion of sports goods manufacturing, scientific fitness protocols, athlete assessment, strengthening anti-doping laws, technical interventions for NSFs, governance compliance under the NSG Act 2025, and India's ambition to host major international sporting events while enhancing representation in global federations.
