Morkel Praises Senior Players Ahead of ODI Series

In Thiruvananthapuram, Team India's bowling coach Morne Morkel expressed that the squad is 'fortunate' to have the seasoned talents of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as they prepare for a three-match ODI series against the West Indies at home.

The opening match of this series is set for Sunday, marking the eagerly anticipated return of ODI stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to the Indian team.

During a pre-match press briefing, Morkel emphasized the significance of having experienced players like Kohli and Sharma, noting that their insights and expertise could greatly assist captain Shubman Gill and the rest of the team. He remarked on the advantage of having such seasoned players who can enrich team discussions.

Morkel stated, 'Having that experience back in the squad is invaluable for guiding Shubman. He has been doing an outstanding job leading the team. I firmly believe in the influence of senior players on the team's dynamics. Different players may feel more at ease discussing strategies with specific senior members, and we are lucky to have a wealth of experience available. When Virat or Rohit lead discussions, their extensive game knowledge enhances the team's performance.'

In terms of ODI statistics, Rohit Sharma stands as India's third-highest run-scorer, amassing 11,895 runs in 288 matches with an impressive average of 48.95, including 34 centuries and 62 fifties.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli boasts an impressive record with 14,941 runs in 314 ODIs, averaging 58.59, complemented by 54 centuries and 79 fifties, solidifying his status as one of the greatest ODI batsmen.

India is looking to recover from a 1-2 defeat in their last ODI series against England in July and aims for a strong comeback with a series victory against the West Indies.
