India's ODI Series Against Afghanistan: Exploring New Batting Options
India's Bowling Coach Discusses Batting Lineup Adjustments
In Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh, Team India's bowling coach Morne Morkel has indicated that the squad will experiment with the number three batting position during the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan. With Virat Kohli sidelined due to a hamstring injury, the team is considering Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, and Yashasvi Jaiswal for this crucial role.
The first match of the three-match ODI series is set to take place at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium on Saturday.
During a pre-match press conference, Morkel emphasized the importance of this series as a chance to test various batting combinations. He stated, "We will be flexible with the number three position, whether it’s Ishan, KL, or Yashasvi. This series gives us a great opportunity to try different players in various slots to better understand our team structure and options."
Morkel acknowledged Kohli's absence as a significant setback for the team, highlighting his experience and skill in stabilizing the innings during the middle overs. He remarked, "Virat's absence is a considerable loss. His ability to manage innings in the middle phase is something we will miss. Unfortunately, injuries are beyond our control."
The Indian squad for the ODI series against Afghanistan includes: Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer (vice-captain), KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Prince Yadav, and Gurnoor Brar.
