Grand Reception for Gold Medal-Winning Team
On October 5, the Indian men's hockey team, fresh from their gold medal triumph at the Asian Games 2026, was warmly welcomed in New Delhi. Captain Harmanpreet Singh expressed pride in the team's performance, highlighting their success in both clinching the gold and securing a spot in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Harmanpreet remarked, "Our performance throughout the tournament was commendable. We achieved our goals of winning the Asian Games and qualifying for the LA Olympics."
Mandeep Singh, another key player, celebrated the team's remarkable achievement of winning consecutive gold medals, emphasizing the importance of this victory as they prepare for the upcoming Olympics.
"Winning back-to-back gold medals is historic for us. We now have sufficient time to gear up for the LA Olympics," Mandeep stated.
The Indian men's hockey team made history at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games by defending their title for the first time. They triumphed over Malaysia with a score of 5-1 in the final, which also guaranteed their direct entry into the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
This victory marks the fifth gold medal for the Indian men's hockey team in the Asian Games, following wins in 1966, 1998, 2014, and 2022.
In a thrilling semifinal against Pakistan, India narrowly won 4-3, with Captain Harmanpreet Singh scoring twice early on. Despite a comeback from Pakistan, Abhishek's last-minute goal secured India's place in the final.
