India's Cricket Team Prepares for ODI Series Against South Africa Amid Player Recoveries
Injury Updates and Team Changes Ahead of ODI Series
Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], November 28: Morne Morkel, the bowling coach for India, has provided updates on the recovery of Shubman Gill, who is healing from a neck injury. He also mentioned that Shreyas Iyer has started his rehabilitation process after suffering a spleen injury during the first ODI against Australia last month.
India is gearing up to compete against South Africa in a three-match ODI series, commencing on November 30 at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi.
While Iyer's injury occurred in Australia, Gill's neck issue arose during the first Test of the recent two-match series against South Africa, which India lost 2-0.
Morkel shared that he had a conversation with Gill two days ago and was glad to learn about his positive recovery. He also noted that Iyer has begun his rehabilitation, expressing enthusiasm about their return to the squad, emphasizing the importance of their health and readiness to rejoin the team.
“I checked in with Shubman two days ago, and he’s on the mend, which is great news. Shreyas has also commenced his rehab, so we’re eager to have them back in the squad. The encouraging part is that they are healthy and preparing to return to the team,” Morkel stated.
With both Gill and Iyer unavailable, India has made significant changes to their lineup for the ODIs against South Africa. Tilak Varma and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been brought back into the team, alongside Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who will strengthen the batting order. Ravindra Jadeja is also returning, while Axar Patel, who participated in the Australia series, has been rested for now.
In Gill's absence, KL Rahul, the regular captain, will step in as the acting skipper for Team India. He faces the challenge of leading the team to a series victory following their disappointing home series defeat against South Africa.
