India's Asian Games 2026: Key Matches and Medal Hopes on Day 12
Crucial Day for Indian Athletes at Asian Games
The Asian Games 2026 is entering a pivotal stage for India, with Day 12 promising a series of high-stakes events across various sports including hockey, archery, wrestling, shooting, squash, and cricket.
One of the highlights will be the much-anticipated men’s hockey semifinal between India and Pakistan, set to kick off at 1:00 PM IST at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium. This match is expected to be a thrilling contest as both teams vie for a spot in the gold medal match.
The day will commence early with golf, starting at 3:00 AM IST. Indian golfers Aditi Ashok, Diksha Dagar, and Pranavi Sharath Urs will participate in the second round of both the women’s team and individual stroke play events at Kasugai Country Club. Meanwhile, the men's team, featuring Veer Ahlawat, Yuvraj Sandhu, and Saptak Talwar, will begin their second round at 7:10 AM IST.
Archery will present India with several chances to secure medals. Taniparthi Chikitha is set to compete against Indonesia’s Nurisa Dian Ashrifah in the women’s compound individual quarterfinal at 5:30 AM IST. Should she advance, the semifinal and medal matches will follow throughout the morning.
In the men's compound individual event, Thirumuru Ganesh Maniratnam will start his quarterfinal match at 9:47 AM IST, with subsequent medal rounds scheduled for later in the morning.
Taekwondo will feature Rupa Bayor in the women’s individual Poomsae semifinal at 5:30 AM IST, with the gold medal match slated for 12:00 PM IST.
Wrestling will also be a focal point, with Indian wrestlers competing at the Nagoya City Inae Sports Complex starting at 7:22 AM IST. Aman will participate in the men’s Greco-Roman 77kg category, while Sumit will compete in the 60kg, Nitesh in 97kg, and Mansi in the women’s 62kg category. The later rounds and medal matches will take place throughout the afternoon, beginning at 2:30 PM IST.
In tennis, Sumit Nagal is set to face China’s Yibing Wu in the men’s singles quarterfinal at 6:30 AM IST, while Yuki Bhambri and Rutuja Bhosale will compete in the mixed doubles quarterfinal.
The Indian squash teams will also be in action, with the women’s team, including Anahat Singh, Joshna Chinappa, Tanvi Khanna, and Shameena Riaz, taking on Hong Kong at 7:00 AM IST, and the men’s team facing Malaysia at 1:00 PM IST.
Additionally, Indian athletes will participate in track cycling and sailing events throughout the day. Harshveer Singh Sekhon will compete in the men’s omnium, while Keerthi Rangaswamy Chikka and Celestina will take part in the women’s sprint rounds starting at 7:00 AM IST.
In sailing, Vishnu Saravanan will compete in the men’s ILCA 7, Nethra Kumanan in the women’s ILCA 6, and Katya Coelho in the women’s IQFOIL. Indian skiff entries will also be active at Kaiyoh Yacht Harbour.
In men’s cricket, India will face Sri Lanka in the second semifinal at 10:00 AM IST, aiming to secure a place in the gold medal match as the defending champions.
Moreover, Indian athletes will compete in Sepaktakraw, shooting, rugby sevens, canoe slalom, judo, and sports climbing. In Sepaktakraw, India will take on Vietnam at 5:30 AM IST and Myanmar at 10:30 AM IST, while Anish will participate in Stage 2 of the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol at 6:10 AM IST.
The day will wrap up with sports climbing, where Deepu Mallesh will compete in the men’s speed event at 4:42 PM IST.
With numerous medal opportunities across various sports and the India-Pakistan hockey semifinal as a highlight, Day 12 is set to be a significant day for the Indian contingent at the Asian Games 2026.
