Intensive Training Camp for Upcoming Tournament

The Indian women's tennis squad has kicked off a five-day training camp at the DLTA Stadium in New Delhi, gearing up for the Billie Jean King Cup Group I – Asia/Oceania round-robin. Their primary goal is to secure a spot in the World Group for the third time.

The team features players Ankita Raina, Sahaja Yamalapalli, Vaishnavi Adkar, Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, Rutuja Bhoosale, and Vaidehee Chaudhari, as announced in a recent statement.

This preparatory camp, which runs from April 1 to April 5, is crucial as the tournament is set to take place at the same venue from April 7 to 11.

Under the guidance of Captain Vishal Uppal, a former two-time Davis Cup player, the team will focus on enhancing their match fitness, developing singles and doubles strategies, and improving their on-court synergy while getting accustomed to the hard courts that will host 15 matches over five days.

India will face regional rivals including New Zealand and the Republic of Korea, with the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association offering free entry for fans to support the team from the center courts.

During the camp, Uppal remarked, “The competition level in this group is quite high, with each team featuring players who can turn the tide. Our consistency and decision-making during critical moments will be vital.”

Entering the tournament, India aims to build on their strong performance from last year's Billie Jean King Cup Asia & Oceania Group I Qualifiers, where they achieved 2-1 victories against Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, and the Republic of Korea. With New Zealand, Indonesia, and Mongolia also competing this year, India is targeting a top-two finish to keep their World Group aspirations alive.

As the team prepares for the qualifiers, their focus is on delivering strong performances and taking a significant step towards rejoining the World Group for the third time. With the advantage of home conditions and recent momentum, India aims to transform their solid performances into a memorable campaign.
