Indian Women's Squash Team Clinches Bronze at Asian Games Despite Tough Semifinal Loss
Indian Women's Squash Team's Journey at the Asian Games
The Indian women's squash team concluded their campaign at the Asian Games with a bronze medal after a narrow 1-2 defeat against Hong Kong in the semifinals on Thursday. Anahat Singh's initial match loss was pivotal in this outcome, despite Tanvi Khanna's impressive comeback.
Eighteen-year-old Anahat, ranked 17th in the world, faced high expectations as India aimed to improve upon their previous performance in Hangzhou 2022. Unfortunately, she let slip four match points, ultimately losing to world No. 25 Sin Yuk Chan with a score of 2-3 (11-9, 11-8, 6-11, 11-13, 10-12) in a gripping first match.
Following this, Tanvi Khanna, ranked 73rd globally, delivered a strong performance, defeating world No. 40 Ka Yi Lee with a score of 3-1 (4-11, 13-11, 11-9, 13-11), keeping India's hopes alive in the three-match series.
However, veteran player Joshana Chinappa, a former top-10 player, faced a setback, losing in straight games to world No. 39 Ho Tze Lok.
Anahat started strong against Sin Yuk Chan, winning the first two games and leading 10-6 in the fourth before faltering and allowing Sin to stage a comeback. Despite trailing 7-9 in the final game, Anahat managed to equalize at 9-9, but ultimately lost as Sin secured the match point.
