Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh) [India], September 28: The Indian women's kabaddi team has secured a gold medal at the Asian Games 2026, with captain Pushpa Rana reflecting on the arduous journey that led to this success. She emphasized that their extensive training, rigorous camps, and unwavering support from coaches played a pivotal role in their achievement.

In a thrilling final, the Indian team triumphed over Iran with a score of 37-34, successfully defending their title from the previous Hangzhou edition.

Rana expressed, “This journey has been incredibly challenging. Our hard work over the past year has finally borne fruit. We have been in training for a long time, especially with intensive camps in the last few months. Our coaches have dedicated themselves to our development, both here and at the national camp. The support from everyone has been instrumental in our success.”

Jyoti Thakur, another key player in the gold medal-winning squad, acknowledged the contributions of SAI Dharamshala, the federation, and the support staff for providing excellent training facilities and opportunities. She stated, “This medal is a testament to everyone’s hard work. I am grateful to SAI Dharamshala for the outstanding facilities and to our federation for their belief in us and for enabling us to represent our country.”

In a nail-biting finish, India maintained their composure as Iran attempted a comeback. With just a minute left, Iran was in desperate need of points, but India's defense executed a crucial tackle on Aynaz, effectively securing their victory.

Ultimately, India emerged victorious with a score of 37-34, adding another gold medal to their collection.
