Indian Women's Hockey Team Heads to Argentina for Crucial Series
Indian Women's Hockey Team Sets Off for Argentina
The Indian Women's Hockey Team departed from Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on Thursday evening, embarking on their journey to Buenos Aires, Argentina. They are scheduled to compete in a four-match series against the host nation from April 13 to April 17.
Due to illness, Captain Salima Tete will not be accompanying the team. In her absence, seasoned forward Navneet Kaur has been appointed as the stand-in captain for this tour, as confirmed by a press release from Hockey India.
This tour is pivotal for India's preparations ahead of a busy international schedule, which includes the FIH Women’s World Cup and the Asian Games. The series will offer the team essential high-intensity match experience, enabling the coaching staff to evaluate player combinations and refine strategies against a formidable South American opponent.
The squad has been engaged in rigorous training in Bengaluru over the past weeks, concentrating on tactical discipline, structured gameplay, fitness, and team cohesion. With a commendable runner-up finish at the FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers 2026 in Hyderabad, the team is entering this series with a strong sense of confidence.
Stand-in Captain Navneet Kaur shared her thoughts before the departure, stating, “This series presents a fantastic opportunity for us to challenge ourselves against a strong team like Argentina. Our training camp in Bengaluru has been very effective, focusing on enhancing our structure and decision-making during critical moments. The team is eager and confident to implement our strategies.”
She further emphasized the significance of the tour within the broader context of the season, saying, “With major tournaments on the horizon, every match is crucial for us to build momentum and better understand our combinations. We aim to maximize this series, play with purpose, and continue evolving as a cohesive unit.”
