Indian Women's Hockey Team Set for Asian Games

On July 10, Hockey India revealed the 20-member squad for the Indian Women's Hockey Team, gearing up for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, 2026.

Salima Tete will continue her role as captain, having successfully led the team to victory in the FIH Nations Cup held in New Zealand last month, as stated in a press release from Hockey India.

Chief Coach Sjoerd Marijne expressed confidence in the squad, noting, “We have a well-balanced team that includes a mix of juniors, seasoned players, and veterans who are all striving to elevate each other's performance.”

The goalkeeping duties will be handled by Savita, who was recently honored with the Padma Shri award, and Bichu Devi Kharibam.

The defensive lineup features Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam, Ishika Chaudhary, and Jyoti, along with Lalthantluangi and Shilpi Dabas, both of whom made their senior debuts during the FIH Nations Cup and were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the team's unbeaten run.

In the midfield, captain Salima will be supported by Nikki Pradhan, Sakshi Rana, Sunelita Toppo, Neha, and Deepika Soreng.

The forward line includes Lalremsiami, Rutuja Dadaso Pisal, Navneet Kaur, Deepika, Ishika, Baljeet Kaur, and Beauty Dungdung.

Marijne added, “This group has demonstrated excellent form and fitness in recent months, and we believe they are well-prepared for the challenges ahead at the Asian Games.”
