Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 3: Mithun Manhas, the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), expressed his pride in the Indian women's cricket team for their nomination for the 2026 Laureus World Team of the Year Award, stating it is "a significant honor for Indian cricket."
Manhas remarked, "Our women's team has shown remarkable talent, determination, and consistency, culminating in their groundbreaking ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup victory in 2025. Being recognized alongside some of the most esteemed teams in international sports highlights their dedication and the rising prominence of women's cricket in India. We wish them the best at the Laureus Awards and believe their accomplishments have made a strong impression globally."
This nomination comes after a remarkable year for Indian cricket, marked by the team's historic first ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup win in 2025, a pivotal moment that secured their place in cricket history, according to the BCCI.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia also commended the Women in Blue, noting that this recognition reflects their influence on the global stage.
Saikia stated, "The 2025 World Cup victory was a transformative moment not just for the team but for the entire cricketing landscape in our nation. This Laureus nomination showcases the worldwide significance of their achievement. During the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, the Indian team exhibited outstanding poise and teamwork, defeating top-ranked teams on their way to securing the trophy.
This victory marked India’s inaugural Women’s ODI World Cup title and represented the culmination of years of consistent growth, belief, and excellence in the women’s game. It also highlighted the ongoing investment and structural advancements in women’s cricket in India over the last decade.

The Laureus World Sports Awards, determined by the Laureus World Sports Academy, honor the most remarkable sporting achievements across various disciplines. The winners will be revealed at a gala event on Monday, April 20, in Madrid, Spain.
