Excitement Builds for Billie Jean King Cup

New Delhi, April 2: Indian tennis athlete Sahaja Yamalapalli shared her enthusiasm as the Billie Jean King Cup approaches, emphasizing the benefits of competing on home turf in Delhi.


“I’m thrilled to be part of this event. Our team is strong this year, and I can’t wait to get started. Playing at home is always a unique experience—last year we were in Pune and Bangalore, but now Delhi is hosting the Billie Jean King Cup. The crowd's energy and support will be incredible,” Sahaja remarked.


Fellow tennis player Vaidehi Chaudhari also expressed her eagerness, stating, “We’ve just begun our preparations and are looking forward to the upcoming week. This marks my fourth Billie Jean King Cup, and we’re aiming for a top-two finish.”


Vaishnavi Adkar conveyed her confidence and excitement, highlighting the team’s strong spirit and thorough preparation.


Coach Vishal Uppal noted that the team has started serious preparations for the Billie Jean King Cup, focusing on adapting to the playing conditions.


“I’m really looking forward to it, and the team spirit is high. It’s not often that we have so many top players together, making this camp a fantastic experience. We recognize that we face tough opponents like New Zealand, but our team is solid and ready to compete fiercely. The main challenge will be to secure a top-two finish, and we’re committed to giving our best,” Adkar added.


In preparation for the Billie Jean King Cup Group I – Asia/Oceania round-robin, the Indian women’s tennis team has initiated a five-day training camp at the DLTA Stadium in New Delhi, aiming for their third qualification to the prestigious World Group.


The Indian squad includes Ankita Raina, Sahaja Yamalapalli, Vaishnavi Adkar, Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, Rutuja Bhoosale, and Vaidehee Chaudhari. The camp, which runs from April 1 to April 5, is a crucial phase leading up to the tournament scheduled at the same venue from April 7 to 11.
