Indian Teams Set for 2026 Thomas and Uber Cup Championships in Denmark
Indian Teams Drawn in Favorable Groups for Upcoming Championships
New Delhi, March 18: The Indian men's and women's badminton teams have received a favorable draw for the group stages of the 2026 Thomas and Uber Cup championships, scheduled to take place in Horsens, Denmark, from April 24 to May 3.
Both teams, ranked eighth in the tournament based on the world rankings of their players, will compete in Group A, which includes the defending champions and top seeds, China.
As the reigning champions of the Thomas Cup, India is expected to secure one of the two quarterfinal spots from Group A, which also features Canada, the Pan Am champions, and Australia, the Oceania champions.
On the other hand, the women's team faces a more challenging path to the knockout rounds, as they are grouped with Denmark, the runners-up of the European team championships, and Ukraine, the bronze medalists.
Sanjay Mishra, the secretary general of the Badminton Association of India (BAI), expressed optimism about the draw for both the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup, highlighting the team's potential to advance to the quarterfinals. He noted that the squad is robust and has the capability to defeat top-tier teams, emphasizing that once they reach the quarterfinals, anything is possible.
“We have a favorable draw and a solid chance to progress to the quarterfinals in both competitions. Our team has demonstrated the ability to overcome any leading team on a good day, and once in the quarterfinals, the possibilities are endless,” stated BAI secretary general Sanjay Mishra.
India made history by winning the Thomas Cup in 2022, while the women's team has previously secured bronze medals in the 2014 and 2016 tournaments.
