Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh Triumph at ASF Awards
New Delhi, March 31: Indian squash athletes Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh have been honored with the prestigious Player of the Year awards by the Asian Squash Federation (ASF) during the ASF Awards 2025 held on Tuesday.
Anahat, currently ranked 20th in the world for senior women's singles, received the ASF Girls' Player of the Year accolade, also known as the 'Hassan Musa award', thanks to her outstanding performances last year, as reported by Olympics.com.
At just 18 years old, Anahat has emerged as a prominent figure in Indian squash, having secured a bronze medal at the World Junior Championships in Cairo. She was also part of the historic team that won the Squash World Cup last year. Recently, she successfully defended her title at the Indian Open, bringing her total to 16 PSA level titles.
Japan's Satomi Watanabe was awarded the senior ASF Women's Player of the Year.
Earlier this February, Anahat made headlines by defeating Commonwealth Games champion Georgina Kennedy from England to claim her first PSA Bronze-level title in Washington, which propelled her into the top 20 globally. This achievement made her the youngest Asian woman to reach this milestone, surpassing the legendary Nicol David from Malaysia.
During the 2024-25 season, Anahat was recognized as the 'PSA Challenger Female Player of the Season' and the 'PSA Young Female Player of the Season'.
Meanwhile, Abhay Singh, ranked 25th in the world and an Asian Games medalist, received the ASF Men's Player of the Year Award, known as the 'Dato Alex Lee Award'.
Abhay's recent accomplishments include winning his first Indian Open title, and like Anahat, he was part of India's World Cup-winning team last year.
The last time Indian squash players were recognized at the ASF Awards was in 2022 when former India No. 1 Saurav Ghosal and veteran Joshna Chinappa took home the men's and women's player honors, respectively.
Additionally, India clinched the men's team award after finishing with a bronze medal at the World Junior Team Championships 2025 in Egypt. Notably, squash is set to debut at the Olympics in 2028 in Los Angeles.
