Indian Sports Ministry Suspends Table Tennis Federation Recognition
Suspension of TTFI Recognition
On Wednesday, the Sports Ministry announced the suspension of its recognition of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI). This decision was made due to governance issues within the federation, prompting the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to establish an ad-hoc committee to oversee the sport.
The ministry's order highlighted TTFI's inability to hold timely elections as a significant factor leading to this suspension. This action followed an unsatisfactory reply to a previous show cause notice issued to the federation.
According to the ministry's directive, the IOA, in collaboration with the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), will implement necessary measures to set up an internal regulatory framework. This includes forming an ad-hoc committee until a proper governance structure is reinstated within TTFI.
