In a recent statement, President Droupadi Murmu praised the Indian men's badminton team for their impressive bronze medal win at the Asian Games 2026, highlighting the team's unwavering determination, resilience, and fighting spirit.
The team secured the bronze after facing a 3-1 defeat against China in the semi-finals held in Aichi, Japan, on Wednesday.
On social media platform X, Murmu expressed her congratulations, stating, "Warm congratulations to the Indian Men’s Badminton Team on winning a bronze medal at the Asian Games 2026. This commendable achievement reflects the team’s determination, resilience, and fighting spirit. Each member made a valuable contribution to this proud success. My best wishes to the entire team for future endeavours."

In the semi-finals, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty delivered India's sole victory by defeating the reigning world champions Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang with scores of 21-11, 22-20 in the men's doubles match.
Lakshya Sen, however, lost the opening match to Shi Yuqi with scores of 21-16, 21-18. Despite a strong start, Lakshya was unable to maintain his lead as Shi rallied back to win the first game and ultimately the match.
The duo of Satwik and Chirag, who are the reigning Asian Games men’s doubles champions, showcased a strong performance against the world No. 3 Chinese pair. They dominated the first game and maintained their composure in the second, converting their third match point to level the tie at 1-1 after the Chinese pair saved two match points.
Ayush Shetty faced world No. 12 Li Shi Feng next but fell short, losing 21-19, 21-13, which put China ahead 2-1.
In a must-win situation for India, Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun took on He Ji Ting and Liu Yi but ultimately lost 21-16, 17-21, 21-9, ending India's hopes of reaching the finals for the second consecutive time.
India had already secured a medal by defeating the host nation Japan 3-0 in the quarter-finals, with victories from Lakshya Sen, Satwik-Chirag, and Ayush Shetty.
