Anticipation Builds for Upcoming Matches

The Indian football team is buzzing with excitement as they prepare to host Panama, Brazil, and Uruguay. Defender Akash Mishra emphasizes the importance of focusing on the game rather than the stature of their opponents once the matches kick off.

For Mishra, these three friendly matches present a unique chance for India to challenge themselves against some of the world's top football talents. He expressed that this experience is particularly meaningful, as the players will be facing athletes they have long admired, according to a statement from AIFF Media.

“We have idolized these players since childhood, but once the match starts, we need to set those feelings aside and focus on performing for the full 90 minutes,” Mishra remarked. “After the game, we can reflect on those emotions.”

“Hearing that we would compete against Panama, Uruguay, and Brazil felt like a monumental opportunity. We have never faced teams of this caliber before, making it a significant moment for all Indian players. This experience will help us gauge our level, as it’s easy to talk, but what truly counts is how we perform on the field,” he added.

The matches will take place in Bengaluru and Kolkata, two cities that hold fond memories for Mishra. He recalls India's successful SAFF Championship run at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium and their qualification for the AFC Asian Cup 2023 in Kolkata. The full-back believes the enthusiastic support from fans in these cities will bolster the team's performance.

“I have great memories of Kanteerava from the SAFF Championship, and qualifying for the Asian Cup in Kolkata was special. While pressure exists, I see it as our strength, as both Bengaluru and Kolkata are passionate about football. The support from fans is a significant advantage for us,” Mishra stated.

“The teams we are up against are of high quality, but ultimately, it’s still eleven against eleven. We must execute the coach's tactics on the field and give our utmost effort,” he continued.

Mishra noted that the atmosphere within the team reflects the significance of the upcoming matches, with every player eager to seize the opportunity.

“With Panama, Uruguay, and Brazil on the horizon, everyone in this camp is highly motivated. This is our chance to shine. All players have arrived with excitement and energy, and we are committed to doing our best,” he said.

While India has much to learn from their esteemed opponents, Mishra emphasized that the team must not view these matches solely as learning experiences.

“These are international friendlies—nation against nation—so we cannot approach them just to learn. We must compete fiercely and give our best effort,” he asserted.

As the high-profile matches approach, Mishra conveyed a heartfelt message to the fans of the Blue Tigers.

“We will give everything we have for our supporters. We hope they will be there to cheer us on. As a team, we will strive to give 100 percent and leave nothing behind, aiming to bring smiles to their faces,” he concluded.
