Indian Duo Wins Bronze in Mixed Doubles Table Tennis at Asian Games 2026

Aichi-Nagoya, Japan - On September 25, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya extended his congratulations to the Indian table tennis pair, Manush Shah and Diya Chitale, who achieved a bronze medal in the mixed doubles category at the Asian Games.
In a post shared on X, Mandaviya expressed his pride, stating, "Congratulations to our paddlers Manush Shah and Diya Chitale on clinching the Bronze Medal in Mixed Doubles Table Tennis at #AsianGames2026!"

The eighth-seeded Indian duo secured their medal by overcoming Hong Kong's world No. 4 team, Wong Chun Ting and Doo Hoi Kem, with a score of 3-1 in the quarter-finals.
However, they faced a tough challenge in the semi-finals, losing to China's Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha with scores of 8-11, 5-11, 8-11, and 2-11. Despite this, their semi-final placement ensured a podium finish as there was no playoff for the bronze.
This bronze medal marks India's second achievement in mixed doubles table tennis at the Asian Games, following the first medal won by Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra in 2018.
The quarter-final victory was particularly noteworthy, given that Wong and Doo are seasoned World Championship medalists.
This medal was part of India's successful Day 6 at the Games, where Gulveer Singh also earned silver in the men's 10,000m race. Additionally, shooters Kamaljeet and Suruchi Inder Singh secured gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, while Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Rudrankksh Patil, and Niraj Kumar contributed a silver in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions team event.
In squash, Joshana Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar advanced to the mixed doubles quarter-finals, ensuring another medal for India.
Both the men's and women's kabaddi teams progressed to the finals after defeating Thailand and Nepal, respectively, while the women's hockey team triumphed over Japan with a score of 3-1 in their Pool B match.
As of now, India has amassed a total of 22 medals at the Asian Games, including two gold, nine silver, and eleven bronze, placing them 12th in the overall standings.
