Historic Victory for India's Top Men's Doubles Pair

Shenzhen [China], September 6: The Indian men's doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty made a remarkable comeback to secure their first-ever China Masters title, triumphing over China's He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu with scores of 11-21, 21-13, 21-17 at the Shenzhen Arena on Sunday.

Having previously finished as runners-up twice at this prestigious Super 750 event, the Indian pair overcame a challenging start and a fierce fight from their Chinese opponents to clinch their second title of the season, according to reports from ESPN.

He and Ren started strong in the first game, applying pressure on Satwik and Chirag with their aggressive play. The Indian duo struggled to find their footing and lost the opening game 21-11, leaving them with little margin for error.

However, the top-seeded pair responded powerfully in the second game, taking charge of the rallies and forcing their opponents into mistakes. Their enhanced defense and sharper attacking strategies allowed them to equalize the match with a 21-13 win.

The final game was fiercely contested, with both teams refusing to yield. Yet, the Indian pair maintained their composure when it mattered most.

With the score tied at 17-17, both teams exchanged errors amid the high-paced rallies. Satwik and Chirag managed to pull ahead after He misfired a smash into the net, and a thrilling rally led by Chirag brought the Indians closer to victory.

This victory provided a sense of redemption for Satwik and Chirag following their disappointing performance at the World Championships in New Delhi just two weeks prior. With injuries and withdrawals clearing their path in China, the Indian duo seized the opportunity to make a determined run for the title.

The celebrations were subdued, with Chirag's back strapped and Satwik managing a shoulder injury. Nevertheless, the relief was palpable as Chirag let out a triumphant shout while Satwik beamed his signature smile after clinching the decisive point.

This win also marked the end of a frustrating streak at the China Masters for the Indian pair, who had reached the semifinals in 2019 and 2024, and finished as runners-up in 2023 and 2025.

In the 2023 final, they lost to China's Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang, and faced another defeat in 2025 against South Korea's Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae. This time, however, they succeeded in going one step further to finally secure the China Masters title.

The title is the second for Satwik and Chirag in the 2026 season, following their victory at the Singapore Open Super 750, and they also finished as runners-up at the Thailand Open Super 500.
