Indian Women's Boxing Team Excels on Day 7

Ulaanbaatar [Mongolia], April 5: The Indian women's boxing team showcased remarkable talent on Day 7 of the 2026 Asian Boxing Championships, with Meenakshi and Jaismine achieving unanimous victories during the morning session in Mongolia.


Their victories secured medal positions for the entire Indian women's squad ahead of the semifinals, as reported in an official release. Meanwhile, Lokesh, Akash, and Harsh Choudhary also triumphed, ensuring six spots for Indian male boxers in the semifinals.


In the women's 48kg category, Meenakshi delivered a strong performance, defeating Japan's Yuka Sadamatsu with a unanimous 5-0 decision, demonstrating excellent combinations and ring control. Jaismine mirrored this success in the 57kg division, overpowering China's Ziyi Chen with a similar 5-0 score to secure her semifinal spot.


This marks a perfect streak for the Indian women, with each boxer achieving a medal position, highlighting the team's depth and consistency on the continental stage.


In the men's events, Lokesh (85kg) advanced with a decisive 5-0 victory over Korea's Gichae Kim, exhibiting control and accuracy throughout the match. Akash followed suit with a commanding 5-0 win against Turkmenistan's Yhlas Bagtyyarov, while Harsh Choudhary also performed strongly, defeating Kyrgyz Republic's Tynystan Alybaev to reach the semifinals.


India now boasts six male boxers in the semifinals, showcasing a robust performance across various categories. However, Ankush (80kg) was eliminated after a defeat to Jordan's Hussein Iashaish.


With several semifinal matches on the horizon, India's campaign is gaining momentum at the Asian Championships.
