As the Asian Games draw near, the Indian boxing team is engaged in a rigorous training camp at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala. This camp focuses on honing their skills and gaining essential experience in preparation for the upcoming continental competition.

The training facility in Patiala has also welcomed international boxers, including fighters from Iran, who joined the Indian team for training on Wednesday. This collaboration is anticipated to offer valuable insights and competitive exposure for the Indian athletes as they gear up for the Asian Games.

Among the notable participants are Olympic medallist Cristian Pinales (90 kg) and Junior Alcántara (55 kg), who are part of a 10-member delegation from the Dominican Republic, alongside Iranian representatives. Their involvement is expected to enhance the training quality for the Indian boxers.

Pinales recently achieved a significant victory over two-time Olympic champion Julio Cesar La Cruz from Cuba at the Central American and Caribbean Games, which will undoubtedly benefit the Indian squad.

It’s worth noting that Indian boxers showcased impressive performances at the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, with Sachin in the 60-kg category and Ankush Panghal in the 80-kg category securing gold medals. Additionally, five female Indian boxers also claimed top honors.

Following the current training camp at NIS Patiala, the Indian boxing team is expected to head to Japan on September 8 for further training sessions with potential rivals for the Asian Games.
