New Delhi [India], October 2: Indian athletes Sarvesh Kushare and Ancy Sojan shared their experiences after winning silver medals at the Asian Games 2026, with Kushare expressing his disappointment over not securing gold.
Sarvesh Kushare achieved a silver medal in the men's high jump event in Aichi-Nagoya, clearing a height of 2.25 meters. Although he matched the height of Chinese Taipei's Fu Chao-hsuan, he finished second due to countback rules. South Korea's Woo Sanghyeok took home the bronze with a jump of 2.22 meters.
Previously, Kushare also earned a silver medal in the same event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Upon returning to India, Kushare expressed gratitude for the warm reception he received, stating that ending the year with silver medals from both the Asian and Commonwealth Games was a significant achievement. He acknowledged the disappointment of missing out on gold but emphasized his commitment to improving and thanked his family and supporters for their encouragement.
“I’m really happy. The love I’ve received upon returning is overwhelming. It’s heartening to see such a large crowd welcoming us. Finishing the year with silver medals from both the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games has been fantastic,” he remarked.
“Hearing India’s national anthem is a proud moment, but not being able to hear it for gold is disheartening. I’ll work on my mistakes to perform better next time. This medal is dedicated to my family and everyone who supported me through my journey,” he added.
Ancy Sojan also secured a silver medal in the women's long jump, achieving a distance of 6.53 meters. She narrowly missed gold, which went to China's Huang Yingying, who jumped 6.55 meters. The bronze medal was claimed by another Chinese athlete, Tan Mengyi, with a jump of 6.46 meters.
Sojan, a Chief Petty Officer in the Indian Navy, expressed pride in her achievement, marking her third medal since joining the Armed Forces. She celebrated her status as a two-time Asian Games medallist and dedicated her success to herself, aiming to elevate the national flag even higher.
“I’m incredibly proud to have won my third medal after joining the Armed Forces. It feels like I’m not only protecting my country but also bringing it honor. This is my second medal at the Asian Games, and I’m proud to announce that I’m a two-time medallist. I salute the flag and promise to raise it higher,” she stated.
