India had an impressive Day 5 at the Commonwealth Games, securing four medals and raising its total to 10 medals.
The standout moment was Sharmila Dhankar's gold in the women's shot put F57, marking her as India's first gold medallist in para athletics at the Commonwealth Games. Additionally, Shilpa K. Shyla's bronze medal was upgraded following a disqualification of a Nigerian athlete, resulting in a double podium finish for India.
In athletics, Sarvesh Kushare earned a silver medal in the men's high jump, while Murali Sreeshankar and Lokesh Satyanathan advanced to the long jump finals. The weightlifting category contributed three more medals, with Gyaneshwari Yadav winning silver, Bindyarani Devi taking bronze, and Valluri Ajaya Babu also securing silver.
India also made strides in boxing and swimming, with several athletes progressing in their events. Sajan Prakash and Swatik Patil reached the swimming finals, although Tejas Shirse, Sumit Kundu, and others were eliminated from their competitions.
So far, India's medal tally includes golds from Mirabai Chanu and Sharmila Dhankar, along with five silver and three bronze medals across weightlifting, athletics, and para powerlifting.
