Three athletes from the Government Arts and Sports College in Jalandhar have been selected to represent India at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. Principal Dr. Ranbir Singh praised their achievements and expressed confidence in their potential to excel on the international stage. The athletes include Gurindervir Singh in the 100 meters, Tajinder Pal Singh Toor in shot put, and Rashdeep Kaur in the women’s 4x100m relay. Celebrating Athletic Excellence

Three talented athletes from the Government Arts and Sports College in Jalandhar have earned the honor of representing India at the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2026, set to take place in Glasgow, Scotland.


Principal Dr. Ranbir Singh expressed his pride in the athletes' accomplishments and voiced his belief that they will bring honor to both Punjab and the nation through their performances on the global stage.


The athletes selected include Gurindervir Singh, who will compete in the 100 meters, Tajinder Pal Singh Toor in the shot put, and Rashdeep Kaur, who is part of the women’s 4x100m relay team.


Dr. Singh noted that this selection showcases the college's strong sporting heritage and the exceptional training provided by the Punjab Sports Department's coaching centers. He emphasized that the college's advanced synthetic athletics track and modern sports facilities have been crucial in developing athletes who excel at both national and international competitions.


In addition to its athletic programs, Dr. Singh highlighted the college's academic offerings, which include BA (General), Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports (BPES), Postgraduate Diploma in Yoga, and MSc in Yoga. He also announced the introduction of Integrated BSc-MSc (4+1) and BCom-MCom (4+1) programs starting in the next academic year.


Founded in 1961 under the guidance of then Chief Minister Partap Singh Kairon, this institution was recognized as Asia’s first sports college. Now known as Government Arts and Sports College, Jalandhar, it has a rich legacy of producing notable athletes, including hockey icons Surjit Singh and Harcharan Singh, famously known as the “Flying Eagle,” along with celebrated sports figures Ishar Singh Deol and Jagdeep Singh.
