Indian Team Shines in Relay Event

Aichi-Nagoya [Japan], September 29: Indian athletes Gurindervir Singh, Sneha Sathyanarayan, Animesh Kujur, and Harita Bhadra expressed their joy after clinching the bronze medal in the mixed 4x100m relay at the Asian Games 2026. They credited their success to strong belief, thorough preparation, and effective execution during the race.

The Indian squad finished the rain-affected final in 41.06 seconds, securing third place behind China, who took gold with a time of 40.78 seconds, while Thailand earned silver with a time of 40.87 seconds.

Gurindervir Singh set a solid foundation for India in the first leg, followed by Sneha, who maintained the pace in the second leg. Animesh Kujur took over in the third leg, and Harita Bhadra anchored the team to a podium finish.

In an interview, Gurindervir expressed his excitement about winning the medal and sharing the moment with his family. He emphasized the team's trust in one another and their commitment to executing their strategy flawlessly.

“I’m incredibly excited. I’ll return home with the medal, see my family’s smiles, and share in their joy. I had confidence in my team and myself. We knew that if we gave our all, we would stand on the podium, and that’s exactly what happened. We executed our plan perfectly,” he stated.

Sneha also shared her happiness, noting that this race held special significance for her after the women's relay team narrowly missed a medal the previous day.

“I am extremely happy, and I can’t express this joy in words. This race was crucial for me. Yesterday, we lost a medal by a fraction of a second in the women’s relay, so this bronze means a lot to me,” she remarked.

Animesh Kujur conveyed his elation, stating that he set aside his disappointment from the individual event to focus on the relay. He had finished fifth in the men’s 200m final earlier.

“I can’t quite articulate this feeling right now because I had been preparing for this competition all year. I didn’t perform as well as I hoped in my individual event, but I put that aside. I stepped out today with the sole aim of winning a medal for India, and we achieved it,” he shared.

Harita Bhadra expressed her delight with the bronze medal, highlighting that the team’s year-long preparation had paid off and thanking everyone who supported her.

“I am very happy. We had been preparing all year for this goal, and I am thrilled we could execute it. I am grateful to everyone who supported me,” she concluded.
