Successful Cricket Tournament in Kathmandu

The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu recently hosted the second edition of the Indian Ambassador's Cricket Tournament at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground and Mulpani Cricket Stadium.

This event showcases India's dedication to enhancing cultural connections with Nepal through sports and nurturing young athletic talent, as stated in a press release from the Indian Embassy.

Held from June 26 to 28, the tournament featured eight teams, including representatives from the Indian Embassy, Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the diplomatic community, Nepali media, former cricketers, government officials, corporate entities, and the Indian diaspora in Nepal (ICAN).

The opening ceremony took place on June 26, attended by Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, along with Gahendra Rajbhandari, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, and other senior diplomats.

After three days of intense competition, the tournament culminated in a thrilling final on June 28, where the Embassy of India faced off against ICAN. Following the match, Ambassador Naveen Srivastava and representatives from the organizing partners awarded trophies and accolades to the winning team and standout players.

A reception on June 29 celebrated the tournament's success, attended by the Indian Ambassador and other dignitaries. The Ambassador expressed gratitude to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and other partners for their support.

Additionally, the Ambassador presented professional cricket kits to three talented Nepali women cricketers under 19—Sana Praveen, Krishma Gurung, and Sabitri Dhami—wishing them success in the upcoming ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup next year.
