Excitement Builds for the Second ODI in Raipur

Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], December 1: Both the Indian and South African cricket teams have arrived in Raipur ahead of their second One Day International, scheduled for Wednesday.

This match will take place at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur.

India enters this match with momentum after a nail-biting 17-run victory against South Africa in the series opener held in Ranchi. The match showcased an impressive performance from seasoned players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

The dynamic duo, often referred to as 'Ro-Ko', continued their excellent form from Sydney, captivating the Ranchi audience. Virat Kohli achieved his 52nd ODI century, while Rohit Sharma set a new record for the most sixes in ODI history.

In a remarkable partnership, Kohli and Sharma added 136 runs for the second wicket. Sharma's innings of 57 runs off 51 balls included five boundaries and three sixes, surpassing Shahid Afridi's previous record of 351 sixes in ODIs.

Kohli's impressive 135 runs came off 120 balls, featuring 11 fours and seven sixes, with a striking rate of 112.50. He has now surpassed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar's record of 51 Test centuries, becoming the player with the most centuries in a single format.

In the first ODI, South Africa opted to field first. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed early for 18 runs off 16 balls, but Rohit and Kohli's partnership kept the momentum going. Despite losing quick wickets, including Rohit, Ruturaj Gaikwad (8), and Washington Sundar (13), India managed to post a total of 349/8 in their 50 overs.

During South Africa's chase, they faced early setbacks, losing three wickets for just 11 runs. A partnership of 66 runs between Tony de Zorzi (39 off 37 balls) and Matthew Breetzke provided some stability.

Dewald Brevis contributed a quick 37 runs off 28 balls, but South Africa found themselves in trouble at 130 runs with half their team back in the pavilion.

A significant 97-run partnership between Breetzke (72 off 80 balls) and Marco Jansen (80 off 39 balls) threatened to turn the game in South Africa's favor, but Kuldeep Yadav's timely wickets brought India back into contention.

Corbin Bosch's valiant effort of 67 runs off 51 balls kept South Africa in the hunt, but they ultimately fell short by 17 runs. Harshit Rana also made a notable impact with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 65 runs.

With this victory, India leads the three-match ODI series 1-0.
