India Secures Victory Against New Zealand

New Delhi [India], April 8: Team India achieved a convincing victory against New Zealand in their second Billie Jean King Cup Group I – Asia/Oceania match on Wednesday. This win came just hours after they faced a setback against Thailand at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association Complex.

In the singles matches, 21-year-old Vaishnavi Adkar, who made her debut in the BJK Cup during the previous encounter, showcased her skills by defeating Aishi Das from New Zealand with a score of 6-2, 6-4. Following her, Sahaja Yamalapalli secured the win for India with a dominant 6-1, 6-3 victory over Valentina Ivanov. The tie was set to conclude with Rutuja Bhosale and Ankita Raina competing against Monique Barry and Erin Routcliffe, as reported by the local media.

Adkar displayed no signs of lingering disappointment from her earlier loss, starting strong by breaking Das early to take a 2-0 lead in the first singles match of Day 2. She maintained her momentum with another break in the fifth game, ultimately closing the first set at 6-2.

Continuing her strong performance into the second set, Adkar broke serve again, although Das managed to level the score at 4-4. However, Adkar elevated her game at a crucial moment, breaking decisively and serving out the match in an hour and a half with a final score of 6-2, 6-4.

Yamalapalli was even more impressive in her match against Ivanov, swiftly taking the first set 6-1 with three breaks of serve. She maintained her dominance in the second set, controlling the play from the baseline and keeping her opponent on the defensive. With Ivanov unable to respond effectively, Yamalapalli finished the match with a solid 6-3 victory.

At the time of reporting, Bhosale and Raina were still engaged in their doubles match.

In other matches, the Republic of Korea continued their winning streak with a solid performance against Thailand, where Daehyon Back and Sohyun Park excelled in singles. Indonesia also climbed to the top of the standings with a commanding 3-0 win over Mongolia, highlighted by Aldila Sutjiadi's impressive double bagel victory, defeating Anu-Vjin Gantor 6-0, 6-0. Anjali Kirana Junarto then secured the tie in singles before teaming up with Meydiana Laviola Reinnamah to conclude the day with another 6-0, 6-0 win in doubles.
