Sri Lanka to Host Indian Men's Cricket Team

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has confirmed that the Indian men's cricket team will visit for a two-match Test series in August, part of the 2025–2027 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. The first Test is scheduled at the Galle International Cricket Stadium from August 15 to 19, followed by the second match at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo from August 23 to 27. Both matches will commence at 10:00 am IST. Currently, Sri Lanka holds the sixth position in the rankings, just behind India, who have reached the WTC final twice but have yet to secure the title. With a slim chance of 5–10% to reach the finals next year, Sri Lanka cannot afford further mistakes.

Shubman Gill's Team Aims for Recovery

Shubman Gill-led Side Eyes To Bounce Back

After a challenging 2-2 draw in England and a successful home Test series against the West Indies, the Shubman Gill era began on a positive note. However, a surprising home defeat by South Africa last year halted that momentum, exposing persistent concerns regarding India's batting against quality spin and a deficiency in their own spin bowling capabilities. The flat pitches of the IPL and insufficient preparation time for Test matches have contributed to these issues against spin in other formats. In Sri Lanka, where a spin-heavy strategy is expected, these vulnerabilities will be tested once more.

Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir faces mounting pressure as well. Initially resistant to the term 'transition', he has since embraced it, acknowledging that the retirements of key players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin will inevitably affect the team's performance. The last Test series India played in Sri Lanka was in 2017, where they achieved a clean sweep, winning all three matches.
