India's Resilient Performance on Day Five

On the final day of the opening Test, India mounted a strong response by taking four wickets during the second session, slowing down England's pursuit of 371 runs. At tea, England stood at 269/4.

Shardul Thakur played a pivotal role, claiming two wickets in consecutive deliveries, dismissing the formidable Ben Duckett (149) and Harry Brook (0). This marked a significant turning point for India, following Prasidh Krishna's earlier success in the rain-affected session.

Krishna had previously taken out Zak Crawley (65) and Ollie Pope (8), contributing to India's resurgence.

As the rain interrupted play again, Joe Root (14 not out) and Ben Stokes (13 not out) were at the crease. England now requires 102 runs to secure victory, while India needs to capture six more wickets on a pitch that remains conducive to batting.

Current scores: India: 471 & 364 vs England: 465 & 269/4 in 58.3 overs (Zak Crawley 65, Ben Duckett 149; Prasidh Krishna 2/69, Shardul Thakur 2/28).
