India Shines on Opening Day of U-19 Asian Boxing Championships in Jakarta

India's Strong Start at U-19 Asian Boxing Championships

Jakarta, Indonesia - On July 5, India kicked off its journey at the U-19 Asian Boxing Championships with impressive performances from its athletes. World Boxing Futures Cup gold medalist Chandrika Pujari and silver medalist Joyshree Devi both secured convincing wins on the first day of competition.

In the preliminary rounds, Chandrika showcased her skills by defeating Mongolia's Lakham Tsendbaatar with a unanimous score of 5-0 in the girls' 51kg category, as reported in a press release.

Joyshree followed suit with a dominant performance, achieving a second-round Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) victory over Chen Ning Hong from Chinese Taipei in the girls' 54kg division, thus advancing to the next round.

The Boxing Federation of India has sent a robust team, featuring 20 boxers in both the U-19 and U-23 categories, highlighting the nation's commitment to nurturing young talent.

This championship serves as a crucial opportunity for India's emerging boxers to compete against some of the best in Asia, aiming to build on the country's recent achievements and maintain its strong presence in the sport.

India's campaign will continue on Monday, with a talented group of U-23 male boxers ready to step into the ring. Asian champion Vishwanath Suresh (50kg) will kick off the day's events against Uzbekistan's Amirbek Ismoilov, followed by Ganga (55kg) who will face Mongolia's Amgalanbaatar Bulgankhuu.

Sagar Jakhar (60kg) is set to compete against Japan's Koichi Nakayama, while Hitesh (70kg) will conclude the day's matches against Jun-Zhanglin from Chinese Taipei, as India aims to build on its strong start in Jakarta.
