India's Strong Performance at World Boxing Cup Stage 2

Guiyang [China], June 20: India showcased an impressive display at the ongoing World Boxing Cup Stage 2 in China, securing six medals, which include four finalists and two bronze medals after the semi-final rounds held on Saturday.

Leading the Indian team was Jyoti (48kg), who achieved a narrow 3-2 victory against Mexico's Fatima Herrera, earning her place in the finals. Herrera, a tough competitor, had previously won a historic silver medal at the World Boxing Cup Brazil 2026 after moving to the 48kg category, making Jyoti's win particularly noteworthy.

Minakshi (51kg), the reigning world number one in the 48kg division who has stepped up a weight class, also delivered a stellar performance, defeating Spain's Laura Fuertes Fernandez with a unanimous 5-0 decision to secure her spot in the final, as reported by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI).

Prachi (57kg) continued the trend of success, winning decisively with a 4-1 score against France's Amina Zidani, thus advancing to the gold medal match. She has been in excellent form, having previously defeated a bronze medallist from the Paris Olympics in the quarter-finals.

In the men's division, Deepak (70kg) maintained India's strong presence with a dominant 5-0 victory over France's Makan Traore, ensuring his place in the final.

India also earned two bronze medals, with Jugnoo (85kg) and Nikhil (55kg) exiting in the semi-finals. Jugnoo lost 0-5 to France's Junior Tadah, while Nikhil faced a similar fate, going down 0-5 against the USA's Lorenzo Patricio.

Upcoming Final Bouts (June 21):

* 48kg: Jyoti vs Farzona Fozilova (UZB)

* 51kg: Minakshi vs Wu Yu (CHN)

* 57kg: Prachi vs Nigina Uktamova (UZB)

* 70kg: Deepak vs Ablaikhan Zhussupov (KAZ)
