India Shines at Commonwealth Games with Gold and Silver in Para Athletics

Outstanding Performances by Indian Para Athletes

At the Commonwealth Games on Saturday, Indian para shot putter Soman Rana secured a gold medal, while fellow athletes Praveen Chitravel and Selva Prabhu Thirumaran achieved silver and bronze in their respective events, marking a successful day for the nation.

Rana, who previously earned a silver medal at the 2022 Asian Para Games, excelled in the men’s F57 category, achieving a season-best throw of 13.40 meters to claim the top spot on the podium.

His teammate, Shubham Juyal, also performed admirably, earning silver with a personal best of 13.28 meters, while Cedric Azamdzi from Cameroon secured bronze with a throw of 12.57 meters.

Chitravel set a positive tone for the day by competing in the men’s triple jump, where he improved upon his previous performance in Glasgow, winning silver with a jump of 16.58 meters.

Selva Prabhu followed closely behind, taking home bronze with a jump of 16.52 meters, marking his first significant international medal.

The gold in this event went to Jamaica’s Jordan Scott, who achieved a jump of 16.72 meters.

In the men’s T54 1500m final, Ramesh Shanmugam finished seventh with a time of 3:23.59.

The day was not without its challenges, as Priyanka Goswami finished seventh in the women’s 10000m race walk, clocking a season-best of 45:53.93, while her fellow competitor Ravina faced disqualification.
