India Sets New Record with Stellar Performances in Women's T20I Against Sri Lanka

Historic Performance by Indian Batters

In a remarkable display of batting, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma led India to a record-breaking total of 221 for two in their fourth T20I match against Sri Lanka on Sunday. This score marks India's highest ever in Women's T20I history.

After being invited to bat first at the Greenfield International Stadium, Mandhana and Shafali showcased their skills, dominating the Sri Lankan bowlers throughout their innings.

Richa Ghosh contributed significantly towards the end with a blistering 40 runs off just 16 balls, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur added a quick 16 runs off 9 balls, helping India secure a formidable total.

The opening partnership between Mandhana and Shafali was a standout feature, as they amassed an impressive 162 runs in just 15.2 overs, setting a new record for the highest partnership for any wicket in women's T20Is for India.

This match marked the fourth time that Mandhana and Shafali have combined for a century partnership, surpassing their previous best of 143 runs against the West Indies in 2019.

Mandhana also made headlines by becoming the fourth player in history to reach 10,000 international runs across all formats, joining the ranks of Mithali Raj, Suzie Bates, and Charlotte Edwards.

Shafali continued her excellent form, scoring her third consecutive half-century in the series, though she narrowly missed out on her first T20I century, falling for 79 runs off 46 balls.

Both batters displayed remarkable precision in their shots, with Shafali's powerful hit over the bowler's head being a highlight of the innings. Mandhana, known for her elegant drives, also found her rhythm, hitting three sixes during her innings.

Despite the quick dismissals of both openers, Richa's explosive batting, which included four fours and three sixes, propelled India past the 200-run mark, solidifying their dominance in the match.
