India Sets New Record by Reaching 2026 T20 World Cup Final
Historic Achievement for Indian Cricket
After 43 years since they ended the reign of the Clive Lloyd-led West Indies by clinching the 1983 World Cup, the Indian cricket team has once again made history by reaching the final of the 2026 T20 World Cup. In a thrilling semifinal, the Suryakumar Yadav-led squad triumphed over England, setting up a final showdown against New Zealand on Sunday, March 8, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This marks the fourth time India has reached the T20 World Cup final, making them the first team to achieve this milestone.
India Breaks Long-Standing Record
This achievement signifies India's fourth consecutive appearance in the finals of men's ICC limited-overs tournaments, following their participation in the 2023 World Cup, 2024 T20 World Cup, and 2025 Champions Trophy. They are the first team in the 56-year history of multi-nation events to accomplish this feat. Previously, the West Indies held the record for reaching three consecutive finals for over four decades, with India being the only other team to have done so.
