India Set to Host Inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in 2024

The first-ever ICC Women’s Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place in India from February 14 to 28, 2024, with Mumbai and Vadodara confirmed as the venues for this prestigious six-team tournament.

As per a statement from the ICC, all matches will be hosted at the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium.

Originally, Sri Lanka was set to host the tournament, but due to ongoing reforms within Sri Lanka Cricket following the ICC Annual Conference in July, the event has been relocated to India.

The ICC evaluated Bangladesh, India, and South Africa as potential hosts before ultimately recommending India, a decision that was approved by the ICC Board on September 1.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah expressed enthusiasm about the tournament, stating, “The ICC Women’s Champions Trophy 2027 signifies an exciting new chapter for women’s cricket.”

He emphasized that this inaugural tournament will showcase the world's top teams in a competitive environment, encouraging teams to improve their rankings and strive for global recognition.

Shah further noted, “With a marquee ICC women’s event occurring annually, we have a unique chance to enhance momentum, ensure consistency, and foster a stronger rhythm for women’s cricket, its athletes, and fans worldwide.”

The tournament will feature Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka, with each team facing off in a round-robin format.

The top two teams from this stage will progress to the final, which is set for February 28.

India enters the tournament as the reigning ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup champions, while Australia holds the title of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup champions after their victory in England in July.

This tournament will serve as a significant global platform for women’s cricket, as the six teams compete to become the inaugural champions of the Women’s Champions Trophy.
