India's T20I Series Against Zimbabwe

The Indian T20I team is gearing up for a three-match series against Zimbabwe, commencing on Thursday, July 23, at the historic Harare Sports Club. Shreyas Iyer will be looking to secure his inaugural victory as captain following a disappointing tour in the UK, where the team faced a 2-0 defeat in a two-match series against Ireland and suffered a 4-0 loss to England.

This series will unfold over a short span of four days, with the second and third matches scheduled for back-to-back days on the weekend, specifically on July 25 and 26 in Harare. A key player to watch will be Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who aims to bounce back after a lackluster debut series in England, where he managed only 42 runs across three matches. He is expected to return to the playing XI and open the innings alongside Abhishek Sharma, as Sanju Samson is absent from the squad.

Historically, India has a strong record against Zimbabwe in T20Is, boasting 11 victories against three losses in 14 encounters, with 12 of those matches held in Harare. Notably, 22 Indian players have made their T20I debuts at this venue, and there is a possibility that three more could join their ranks during this tour: Harsh Dubey, Ashok Sharma, and Yash Thakur. Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir will not be accompanying the team, with VVS Laxman, head of the Centre of Excellence, stepping in to lead the squad for this series.
