India Set to Face South Korea in Davis Cup Qualifiers
Upcoming Davis Cup Tie Details
The highly anticipated tennis match between India and South Korea in the second round of the 2026 Davis Cup qualifiers is set to take place on September 18-19 at the Olympic Tennis Centre in Seoul.
The victorious team from this tie will secure a spot in the Final 8 stage of the Davis Cup, which is scheduled for November in Bologna, Italy, according to reports from Olympics.com.
Currently, South Korea is ranked 16th in the Davis Cup standings, holding a narrow 6-5 advantage in their head-to-head encounters against India, who are positioned at 19th.
India plans to announce their team for this crucial tie on Monday. The last meeting between these two nations occurred in 2016, where India triumphed with a 4-1 victory in Chandigarh during an Asia/Oceania Group I match played on grass.
India advanced to the second round after a hard-fought 3-2 win against the Netherlands in Bengaluru back in February, despite being ranked 33rd at the time, while the Dutch were 6th.
Dhakshineswar Suresh emerged as a key player for India, winning both his singles matches and teaming up with Yuki Bhambri to clinch the doubles match.
This victory marked India's first advancement to the second round of the qualifiers since the current format was established in 2019.
On the other hand, South Korea also made it to the second round by defeating the 2016 champions Argentina 3-2 in Busan.
South Korea has reached the 16-team Davis Cup Finals in both 2022 and 2023, while India aims to qualify for the Final 8 for the first time under the current format.
Historically, India has been a runner-up in the Davis Cup three times, in the years 1966, 1974, and 1987.
